Hattor Audio

Hattor Audio is the operated by Arek Kallas.  Located in Warsaw, this Polish company is quickly gaining recognition for build quality, visual elegance, superb sound and good value.  Arek’s first company, Khozmo, started production of various high end volume controls (attenuators), both supplied as parts for DIY users, and in Khozmo passive preamps.  

With Hattor Audio, Arek has taken what was already a good product, added useful features/options, and improved the build quality, to the point that Hattor Audio products can stand comparison to anything produced.   Most importantly, Hattor Audio’s preamps fully realize the promises of a passive preamp, while giving you the same convenience as a modern high-end two-channel preamp.  Where a typical stepped attenuator has 3dB steps, and no provision for balance adjustments.  With Hattor Audio, you get features like these:

My first listen to Hattor Audio was revelatory, in the true sense of the word.  I heard new details, set organically within the context of the music.  It was completely natural, nuanced and effortless.  

Hattor Audio offers a number of options.  I keep some units in stock, but cannot stock every variation.   When special ordered, it can take up to 6 weeks for Arek to finish production (he is busy).  

Besides the passive preamp Arek is known for, he is offering active tube gain versions, integrated amps, and amplifiers.  All are well made.  All sound good.  All feature exceptional value.

I can personally recommend both the Takman Rex and Amtrans AMRG.  However, the build quality of the AMRG, and the sound of the AMRG, is superior to the Takman, and most other resistors.   Notable exceptions are the very expensive hermetically sealed custom-made resistors, like the sealed Bulk Z Foil.  The potted and sealed Amtrans AMRG, with its gold-plated leads, promises outstanding sound that will not change for decades.
