Every organization will fail.  Even our (not as great as it used to be) country is falling apart at the seams, the victim greed, fraud, selfishness, wishful thinking, sloth, ignorance, and the asinine stupidity of the electorate.  So, it's not news that just because you are on top now, you will not stay on top forever.  Wal-Mart and eBay will be crushed by somebody else, just like GM, and so many before them.  In a collapse of epic quickness and ignominy, Audiogon's reign as the top marketplace for high-end audio is pretty much over.  In their place, I am recommending US Audio Mart, at http://www.usaudiomart.com/,as your place to sell used high-end equipment, records, tubes, etc., on the internet.  While I support a dealer system, the reality is that most people prefer to sell their used equipment by themselves.

The final straw for me with Audiogon was an accusatory email.  Because my ads had expired, they automatically assumed that I sold the equipment off of Audiogon.  Between the bungling, the constantly changing fees, the accusations of "breaking the rules", and the abandonment of the business practices that got them where they were, Audiogon has outlived its usefulness.

Is the US Audio Mart site perfect?  No.  It needs some work, but they'll get there.  If people make suggestions, and treat them like they would like to be treated themselves, they'll get where they need to get.  I only hope they don't self-destruct like Audiogon.  My experience with the Canadian parent of US Audio Mart has been completely positive.  In general, I trust Canadian business people.  They aren't looking to rape you every time you transact business.
